About Our School

Rectory C.E. Primary School is a small primary school on the borders of St Helens and Wigan. It is set in Downall Green, an area with a rich local history. The school has provided a Christian education for primary children for 170 years and has recently celebrated this.

The vision of the Headteacher and Staff is a strong one committed to raising the attainment of all, accelerating progress through the collective responsibility of all partners, and working very closely with parents and carers.

The school has a commitment to inclusion and embraces ability and disability in equal measure.

Rectory School is a resource base for a number of children with Autism.

Children are happy and valued and the Christian ethos is strong.

Ofsted rated the school as 'good' with 'outstanding features' in 2012 and result of the Anglican Inspection was that the school is 'outstanding'.

Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the start of the final term of the school year, our thoughts go to the future.  Our Y6 children are nearing the end of their time at Rectory School and we hope that not only will they achieve academic success, but they will leave Rectory School confident, hard-working children who know what it is to be responsible, reliable members of a school community, holding on to the values taught to them at this Christian school.

I have had the privilege of working here for the past sixteen years, ten of those as Headteacher.  The school has changed dramatically over this time and has embraced change with resilience and enthusiasm.

This strong Christian community works closely with the church and strives at all times to give the children here the very best possible education.

I shall retire as Headteacher on 31st August this year, but know that the school will continue to go from strength to strength under a new leadership. An appointment will be made early in the summer term and as soon as my successor is appointed I will give you further details.  In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with the Governing Body as they make this pivotal appointment.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Janet Prowse
